When will the LA 1 Expressway Open?
LA 1 was designed to be built in three phases. Phase One, the bridge over Bayou Lafourche, opened in July 2009. Phase Two,
from Port Fourchon to Leeville, opened in December 2011. Phase Three, from Leeville to Golden Meadow, construction will
begin in Fall 2022.
How does the LA 1 tolling work?
To keep you on your way, LA 1 uses “in-lane” tolling technology, considered one of the most convenient and driver-friendly
toll systems. This system allows drivers to pay tolls without having to stop and exit their vehicles and offers a new
Toll-By-Plate system for customers without a pre-paid GeauxPass account to receive an invoice by mail at the address where
the vehicle is registered.
For more information on the LA 1 Expressway project go to www.la1project.com.
What is a GeauxPass?
GeauxPass is a toll tag that is linked to a prepaid account. The GeauxPass and associated account allow you to use Louisiana Toll
Facilities without having to stop to pay the toll. Toll fees are deducted electronically from a prepaid GeauxPass account
and keep drivers moving.
How does GeauxPass work?
The GeauxPass is mounted on your vehicle’s windshield. When the vehicle drives beneath the overhead electronic toll
collection equipment, called gantries, the equipment sends a signal to the GeauxPass and the toll is collected electronically,
deducting the appropriate toll amount from your GeauxPass account.

How much is a GeauxPass?
Now through September, the non-removable GeauxPass fee is waived.
Please note: the $20 prepayment will still be required to open a GeauxPass account. This can be paid by cash,
check or debit and credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express).
How does the GeauxPass account work?
When your GeauxPass account reaches a balance of $20 – the minimum amount required to open an account –
or less, a deposit is necessary to keep your account active. If you have a credit or debit card (credit card
recommended) on file, you can elect to enroll in the “Auto Replenish” program. For customers signed up for
Auto-Replenishment, DOTD will charge $20 to the Customer’s credit or debit card to fund the GeauxPass account
automatically once the GeauxPass account falls below $10. Customers are responsible for keeping the credit/debit
card information on the GeauxPass account updated.
Can I use my Causeway account and Transponder for the LA 1 Bridge?
Your Causeway Toll Tag can be used to travel on the LA 1; however, you will need both a GeauxPass and
Causeway account.
How do I qualify for a non-resident commuter rate of $2.70 per trip?
To qualify for the non-resident commuter rate of $2.70 per trip, drivers who take LA 1 must make a
minimum of 20 trips over a period of 60 days. Once the driver meets the threshold, the discounted fare is
automatically applied to the account of that GeauxPass in the system.
Until the 20-trip requirement is met, your account will be charged the full 2-axle rate of $4.50 per trip.
After the requirement is fulfilled, the discount will be applied to your account.
Where can I use my GeauxPass?
You may use your GeauxPass on LA 1 and on future Louisiana toll facilities. You can also use your GeauxPass
on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge; however, you will need separate GeauxPass and Causeway accounts. No
out-of-state toll tags will be accepted at this time.
Do I need to register my trailer(s) or boat(s) that I tow with my vehicle?
Yes. Although you just need one GeauxPass, the license plate number of the trailer or boat you are towing must be visible and registered on your GeauxPass account.

Someone else was driving my car at the time of the notice. Do I have to pay?
Yes. Under Louisiana law, owners of vehicles are responsible for any toll regardless of who was driving
at the time.
Can I dispute a toll notice?
Yes. Toll notices are sent to the vehicle owner. All hearing requests must be submitted in writing to the address on
the notice.
I have a toll transponder from another state. Will it work on the LA 1 Expressway?
No. At this time, only the GeauxPass and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Toll Tag will work on LA 1. GeauxPass
will also work on future Louisiana toll roads.
If I do not pay the toll, what happens?
Paying the toll isn’t optional. DOTD will have zero-tolerance for all motorists who fail to pay the toll. Drivers
who do not pay by the rules will be flagged in the system. Misclassification of any vehicle or underpaying any toll
will result in a notice and be subject to the appropriate toll fee as well as any additional applicable service
fee(s). A notice will be sent to you at your registered address.
How long do I have to pay the toll?
Once you enter the toll gantry, the toll must be paid. If you do not pay using GeauxPass your vehicle will be
flagged, and a notice will be sent.
What should I do if I receive a toll notice?
If you receive a toll notice, you can resolve it on geauxpass.com, by visiting our Customer Service Center or by calling
GeauxPass customer service during operating hours at 1-866-662-8987. If you are not a GeauxPass customer, your notice

Why did I receive a toll notice if I am a GeauxPass customer?

- The tolling equipment could not read your GeauxPass
- The vehicle had a license plate that is not registered on your account
- You have insufficient funds in your account

No, the non-resident commuter discount of 40% will not change. The discount will be applied to the 2023 toll rate of your vehicle class.
